Somatic and biofeedback monitors an individual’s physiological state, providing information for discussion. Recipients learn to consciously control aspects of their physiology. Using relaxation or breathing techniques to slow down heart rate, for example. This understanding helps to manage symptoms for a variety of medical and psychological conditions.
The mind and body connect intimately, though not always in balanced and healthy ways. Thoughts, emotions, feelings and sensations are all interconnected, intertwined, symbiotic and influence one another.
Therapists use diverse body-centred methods, focusing on the mind-body symbiosis. They apply psychotherapy, physical manipulations, and energy corrections for holistic healing, incorporating discussions, mind-body exercises, and other physical techniques. The latter helps to release pent-up tensions and blocked energies that negatively affect a person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.
When traditional and well-known therapeutic techniques have reached their limits for a client. Somatic and biofeedback serve as the largely untapped resource for psychotherapy. These resources include what can be learned from a client’s gestures, posture, facial expressions, eye gaze, movement, energy flow and testing muscle tone.
What underpins all of this, is the knowledge and understanding that the body manifests mental unease, but can also help to heal it.
